How to Customize a Wedding cake

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Without a doubt, weddings are one of the most traditional ceremonies performed in the world. If you want to individualize your ceremony without veering too far from tradition, you might want to try your hand at a custom-made wedding cake. Like everything else about your wedding ceremony, your wedding cake should reflect you personal style and fit into your wedding theme. If you think cake decorator have one type of wedding cake that they offer, you are in a big surprise. While a cake decorator will carry a certain line of cakes for weddings, they usually take special requests. You are basically free to design a wedding cake that you want.

A traditional wedding cake is vanilla with white frosting. There are usually several tiers, which decrease in size as you reach the top of the wedding cake. The traditional wedding cake features roses or other flowers as its only decoration. Of course, a mini plastic bride and groom figurine tops the wedding cake. A traditional wedding cake is about as simple as you can get. In fact, many cake decorators keep a set of these on hand in their freezers.

Do you or the groom have a favorite flavor of cake that is not the traditional white wedding cake? Well, have the cake decorator make your wedding cake with that flavor. If you don’t have a particular flavor of cake or if you have several, you might want to have your wedding cake made with a variety of flavors. Some flavors that are common for a wedding cake include chocolate, lemon, and carrot. You may also want to try adding a filling to your wedding cake.

Decorations are another way that you can customize your wedding cake. Instead of flower petals you may want to get creative and think of an unusual way to frost your wedding cake. If your wedding cake features a light color, you could use a dark icing, such as chocolate to outline the wedding cake.

Once you decide how you want your wedding cake to look and taste, you will need to find a cake decorator to build it for you. Making a wedding cake is no simple job. Unless someone comes to you highly recommended, you should see a decorator’s portfolio before hiring them to make your wedding cake. Cake decorators are usually very busy so you want to find a decorator very early in your wedding plans so that they can have time to design and make your wedding cake.

The Basics of Wedding Decorations

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Gorgeous and stylish wedding decorations are often the centerpiece of the wedding ceremony and reception, and can change the mood in any setting. Themed wedding decorations set the stage for your wedding theme, and can be used in many areas of your ceremony and reception locations. Common places to decorate for your wedding in an indoor and outdoor environment are:

At the Ceremony:

The Entrance or doorway (includes arches for outdoor gazebos and garden weddings)
Pews, chairs and Altars
Inside walls, or the first adjoining rooms from the entrance.
The area around the Guest Registry
Pathways and important wedding party vehicles

The Reception:

Outer door entrance
First entrance room
Tables – head table, food tables (buffet)
Walls
Wedding Cake (cake topper)
Ceilings

Since wedding ceremonies and receptions can pretty much happen anywhere that the couple choose, wedding decorations can apply based upon the theme you may choose. Decorating for your traditional wedding may mean beautiful pure white candles, fresh flower arrangements, embroidered cloth napkins. Planning to decorate for a fall wedding? This might mean pumpkins, preserves, ‘hanging harvests’, grape vines strewn with gold and red colored leaves. Mood and setting will really influence where and how you decorate. See the room in the ‘whole picture’ and think of the theme or feelings conveyed – do these match the same traits in the bride and groom?

Always remember your timeline. Since the wedding party is usually the biggest part of the decorating (unless you are using a wedding planner /coordinator) they must have a set plan for placing wedding decorations and taking them down. Often (especially in the case of a formal wedding such as a church) the wedding decorations must go up shortly before the wedding and are taken down immediately after. Think about the following details which will help you complete your decoration:

Colors and wedding theme, time of day of the wedding ceremony, location of the event, temperament of the bride and groom, feasibility and cost of design of decorating (budget), space to decorate and the total number of people attending.

Choosing The Right Wedding Cake Toppers

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

The first thing to consider when choosing a wedding cake topper is how it looks with your cake. Depending on how big or how decorative the cake is, you might find that some cake toppers just don’t even fit on top!  So, first get the dimensions of your cake and keep them handy when shopping. They will come in good use.

Most cake tops are made to fit standard sized cakes that have a top tier of about 8″ in diameter, so there will be plenty of options if your cake is this size. If it is larger, you can simply buy more figurines or cake toppers, or build a centerpiece out of a statue topper or some other decoration if you want to.

When you start looking through the cake tops keep in mind your wedding theme. Funny wedding cake toppers are great for most wedding themes. They are perfect for beach weddings, even ballroom weddings. They may look out of place at a fairytale wedding or a romantic wedding, however.  If you are having one of these consider a statue cake topper like the dove wedding cake toppers.

Other options include monogram wedding cake toppers. These are great no matter what your ceremony is all about.  They come in different fonts but the most popular are a modern Arial styled font. Some also feature jewels and other accents.  Choose one that suits your decor and be sure to get the bride and groom initials.

There are wedding cake toppers for all seasons, plus there are also interchangeable bride and groom figurines.  These wedding figurines can be paired up however you like, so a funny bride can go with a serious groom and vice versa.

There’s more than one way to top your cake, so start shopping for some of the best funny wedding cake toppers and other decorations today.

How to Choose the Right Wedding Cake Toppers

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Nowadays it is very important to choose a right wedding cake topper since it does receive lots of attention with the wedding cake being the centerpiece of a wedding reception. They are also in full view of all guests for a few hours before the ceremony begin and will be a keepsake after your wedding.

Therefore choosing a right wedding cake topper sometimes is the key point of a wedding. But how to choose the right one? Here I would share you some tips.

Basic principle, choose YOUR cake toppers, not others. That means your topper should be absolutely different from others. It should reflect your personality, or mirrors your wit and sense of humor. Maybe you’d prefer one that illustrates your hobbies or perhaps one that just ties the whole theme of your wedding together. However, just remember the basic principle- choose the one belongs to you.

You will be surprised with what is available in the marketplace and online. Figurines are available that depict couples in skiing gear, of various ethnic background, walking arm-in-arm on a beach, riding a horse or sitting gingerly on the edge of the cake. Monogrammed cake tops are also very popular and add an air of elegance and personalized heart shaped toppers that feature a photograph of the couple are getting more and more popular too. So many styles you can choose and if you can’t find the suitable one, you can even custom one.

Second wedding cake tops should fit your wedding theme and cake. If you are planning a beach themed wedding, choosing a beach theme topper might be the best idea. Also if your cake and toppers are not made in the same place, you have to consider this issue as not every cake and toppers fit well. It would be a good idea to talk to your pastry chef about your choices of cake toppers, bringing pictures and dimensions if at all possible.

Wedding Cake Toppers For The Big Day

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

If it is the wedding day then the cake has to be special. Everyone is keen to see the cake and it is a special memory that will last a lifetime. In short, there is no better way than to literally having an icing on the cake. Custom wedding cake toppers often top off the wedding theme for the couples and are a great chance for bringing in some light mood and humor to a wedding. There are vows and there is the walk down the aisle and throwing of the flowers. There is the dance and then the celebration. But having funny cake toppers could be the one memory that sticks in the head of all the guests when they look at it. Most of the wedding cake toppers are usually replicas of the couple. Although the normal ones show the groom and the bride just holding hands or flowers, there are the funning cake toppers that make everyone in the room smile.

Wedding cake toppers are 7 or 8 inch replicas which need to be usually ordered at least a week in advance. They are designed keeping the cake in mind, its softness and the weight that it can take. Often these wedding cake toppers are used by the groom and the bride to take digs at each other poking fun and cherishing their singlehood even as they are taking the oath. While some cake toppers show crazy grooms getting the blues or playing video games, some cake toppers show the bride carrying the groom to the church bringing out a roar of laughter when it is seen for the first time. The whole idea of wedding cake topper is to make the occasion light and cheerful even as everyone is worried about the procedures and the formality.

Wedding cake toppers usually are also dedicated to other important people in the wedding. They could be the bride’s parents with the bride’s father in a nice tuxedo or the bridesmaid and the bride’s friends in their colorful dresses still single. The best man is also sometimes represented in the cake toppers. Some groomsmen gifts are designed like bobbleheads with enormous cartoon character like heads for the groom and the bride. Interestingly, some of these are actually designed using the photos of the bride and the group. A computes is used to do the 3D modeling to design these custom wedding cake toppers so that in the end the replica actually turns out to imitate the couple and the faces of the wedding cake toppers look very similar to that of the couple getting married.

These cake toppers are usually inexpensive but some custom cake toppers could cost as much as 300 dollars where there are themes used and some intricate designing such the skiing couple or the motorcycle riding couples. Otherwise, good cake toppers can be had at around 100 dollars. These cake toppers are perfect setting for a multi tiered cake with a dancing couple atop.

Wedding Decorating

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

As a wedding planner and wedding cake decorator, my motivation is to bring to you wedding elegance and glamour within a budget. With time and patience this can and has been done. If you are not up for the challenge, then hire a wedding planner. Your wedding day, including your wedding reception, and wedding ceremony, will be a representation of you, presented to your wedding guest. If you know anyone crafty, a friend or family member that you can trust and depend on, or a little crafty yourself, will help tremendously.

Adding elegance and glamour to your wedding ceremony and wedding reception using tulle and ribbon.Tulle is very important when decorating for wedding elegance. Your local craft and fabric stores will carry a variety of ribbon and tulle. Check all of them. Yes, check all of them until you find the perfect tulle and ribbon. Tulle is very inexpensive, by a small piece, bring it home, and see if it will fit your wedding theme and color scheme. The same applies for the ribbon that you choose.

You can buy tulle with glitter or rhinestones embedded in it, and it’s beautiful when it’s draped, and reflects light. You can also buy a pack of small bulbs or lights, in wedding section at wal-mart. String floral wire through it and attach to back of pew bow. They last very long, and for me it was worth the price for the elegant lighting affect it gives. If you decide to choose plain tulle, which still has a sheen to it, you can use it to wrap wedding favors. Cut squares, put a votive candle or mints in it, gather at top and tie ribbon or personalized ribbon, with bride and groom’s name and wedding date on it.

Ribbon: wired ribbon is flexible, holds it shape, and very easy to work with, that’s why it’s my favorite ribbon to use when decorating for weddings, or making bridal bouquets. Also, not to mention the shimmer that glitter ribbon gives for the price of money that you will spend. You can use ribbon and tulle to put between your wedding cake layers if your wedding cake is tiered, or use the wired ribbon to make bows for your wedding cake table. Connect the bows that you made to pew bow clips, and attach to your wedding cake table. You will need pew bow clips to drape and swag tulle. You can find large bags of pew clips at craft stores.

Personalized Wedding Cake Toppers To Make An Impression

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Cutting the wedding cake on the wedding day is one of the most important parts of the wedding ceremony. To match the wedding theme, it is very essential to choose the right cake for the wedding banquet so that it matches well. Design of the wedding cake is an important aspect to consider if you really want to get the attention of your guests.

Reflect your personality:

Your personality gets reflected with the unique wedding cake topper and this is one great way to impress the guests at the wedding party. Adding personalized wedding cake toppers is a great idea if you want to customize your wedding cake. Grandparents and parents did things traditionally many years back, but in current times, we find that couples prefer doing things and making preparations that are unique and different and apart from what were done in the past.

You can add grace and some extra style to your wedding cake by adding a personalized wedding cake topper. The first thing is to understand what a wedding cake topper exactly is. Basically a wedding cake topper is a display, traditionally a set of figurines or a figurine, that is placed on top of the wedding cake. At the wedding party the guests can also be given the wedding cake topper as a keepsake.

Customizing the cake topper:

It is a great idea to personalize the wedding cake topper. It is for this reason that a new idea makes the wedding very unique. A number of local and international professional artists are available who provide variations and themed designs that you may want to pick from as the cake topper. If the groom has a passion for sports, then you can have a traditional design for the bride figurine, while the groom can be dressed in a sports outfit, which is able to reflect his passion for sports. In the traditional line of thought, the couples first nicknames or names were engraved on a glass paperweight which made the wedding cake topper. At times even a ceramic castle took the form of a topper for the wedding cake. Two elegant swans embracing each other also represented the couple and their holy bond in matrimony.

At the wedding reception, the wedding cake will certainly be given a second look with the right topper in place. Guests at the wedding would love to take pictures of the cake topper just to remember the event they attended. A unique wedding cake topper will surely make the event a day to be remembered. Custom handmade figurines are very popular these days. If you shop online you will find that there are lots of wedding cake topper designs available, but almost all designers offer to create one out of your own fantasy or passion to make the wedding day a memorable event. The latest craze in town is to make personalized wedding cake toppers from handmade figurines. These surely make the right impression and also help to send out strong social messages.
