What happened to the birthday cakes you could buy?

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

I remember in the 90′s my aunt use to get as presents. Little birthday cakes that was really fancy presented. The had nice frosting and messages as well with a ribbon tied around them. It was in a plastic box that could’ve lasted for a long time if left.

They were really cool. Does anyone know where they went and who has or had them?
England specifically :)

Could Having a Slice of Cake Help Hot Flashes?

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

I discovered the menopause cake recently, claiming to help menopause problems.

It is supposed to be high in phytoestrogens as it contains linseed and soya flour.

Apparently some women find it a great help whilst others do not benefit.

I first heard about this from the lady I go to for reflexology. She had seen an article in the Daily Mail (a British newspaper)with a recipe for it.

It was devised by a woman called Linda Kearns who was going through a rough time going through the ‘change of life’. She was prescribed HRT but was unhappy at the prospect of taking medication long-term and was anxious to find an alternative.

She decided to devise a an HRT or Menopause Cake which would have all the nutrients she needed and required.

Linda found, that it not only worked for her, but for her friends too and was soon a big talking point for her local town in Yorkshire.

Back to my reflexologist. She and four other friends, also going through the menopause decided to try it.

For her it definitely worked. She and one of her friends were on a high, they felt so good.

Gone were her hot flashes , night sweats, insomnia, moodiness etc.

Two of her other friends found it made no difference to them, and the last one experienced bloating and stopped using it.

The cake is made from soya flour, soya milk, pumpkin seeds, raisins, linseeds, sesame seeds, nuts of any kind and extra dried fruit or apple, plus spices if you want to vary recipe. This cake is 95% fat free – no fat is added as the nuts and seeds provide this.

If you want the full recipe, click Menopause Cake .

Ingredients such as seeds and soya are rich in phytoestrogens – natural plant chemicals which mimic female hormones.

I happen to be a bit lazy, so I order some from a a company called Wellfoods, which is based in the UK.

Too good to be true? Try it and see…

What’s the name of the ice cream cake that could be bought at grocery stores in the 90s? It was served sliced?

Monday, May 24th, 2010

The ice cream cake was supposed to be gourmet. It was almost in the shape of a loaf of bread. I’m not even sure if it had actual cake in it to tell you the truth. I do know the commercials showed it being sliced, and there were nice glasses and a chandelier. Don’t know if that helps, but hopefully someone will remember.

Could I put ice cream in a oreo crust to make ice cream cake?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I have to bring a snack to work and everyone loves ice cream cake but they’re like 20 bucks and I figure that would be like 7 bucks to make.

(The store bought oreo pie crusts) Throw some crushed up oreo between the ice cream and frosting on top and put in the freezer. Would it be like ice cream cake?
