Easy Chocolate Dessert Recipe

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Chocolate is one of the oldest processed foods enjoyed over the past millennium. It came from the tropical tree called cocoa. This tree is native to South America, Central America and Mexico. The seeds of the cocoa tree are dried and fermented and finally grounded and liquefied. As a result of these processes, pure unsweetened chocolate is formed.

There are different kinds of chocolate. Each is classified according to its composition and color. Milk chocolate is the combination of sugar, cocoa butter and milk. It is considered not a true chocolate because of the absence of cocoa solids formed from the processes involved in production of pure chocolate. White chocolate can be consumed by animals. The addition of sugar and fats makes up the third kind of chocolate. Dark chocolate has high cocoa content and is believed to have health benefits by reducing the occurrence of heart attack. One example of dark chocolate is semisweet chocolate which is used in cooking recipes. Sometimes vanilla is added for a more pleasing aroma.

Ok, here’s the issue: I need to make a sugar free chocolate cake for a diabetic tomorrow, but I live far from a store. I have Splenda, cake flower, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, eggs and low-fat milk. Do you have any idea of the amounts of each I could use to make this cake? Is it even possible?
Oh and I have shortening and wheat flower, if that helps :{

Beat to a cream half a cupful of butter and a cupful and a quarter of powdered sugar. Add two well-beaten eggs, two tablespoonfuls of wine, half a cupful of milk, and a cupful and a half of sifted flour, with which has been mixed a teaspoonful and a half of baking powder.

Bake this in four well-buttered, deep, tin plates for about fifteen minutes in a moderate oven. Put half a pint of milk in the double-boiler, and on the fire. Beat together the yolks of two eggs, three tablespoonfuls of powdered sugar, and a level tablespoonful of flour. Stir this mixture into the boiling milk, beating well.

Add one-sixth of a teaspoonful of salt, and cook for fifteen minutes, stirring often. When cooked, flavor with half a teaspoonful of vanilla extract. Put two of the cakes on two large plates, spread the cream over them, and lay the other two cakes on top. Beat the whites of the two eggs to a stiff froth, and then beat into them one cupful of powdered sugar and one teaspoonful of vanilla.

Shave one ounce of Walter Baker & Co.’s Premium No. 1 Chocolate, and put it in a small pan with two tablespoonfuls of sugar and one tablespoonful of boiling water. Stir over a hot fire until smooth and glossy. Now add three tablespoonfuls of cream or milk, and stir into the beaten egg and sugar. Spread on the pies and set away for a few hours.

Here is how it is made: Take two measures of maida, two measures of powdered sugar, 1/2 measure of cocoa powder, 1/2 measure of milk powder, 1/2 measure of butter, 2 measures of water and beat it into a fine batter using a whipper attachment in a blender; pour this batter into a suitable vessel upto not more than half inch deep and place in an oven ( i have used improvised an oven, seen in the clip ); heat on a very low flame for about 15 mts and test whether the cake is fully baked by inserting a clean matchstick ( should come out clean ); cool for about one hour and prise it out of the vessel; if you so like you may add icing made of butter and icing sugar; even as it is, it would be tasty..and then EAT ! Tip: Do not pour the batter deeper than about 1/2 inch, else the center of the cake would be dense.. also you can add raisins and dry fruit peices to the batter if you want to …
