Friday, July 30th, 2010

When you want to knock their socks off; when you want them to stand up and cheer; when nothing but the best will do because it is your wedding day; that is when you serve a spectacular wedding cake.

Do not let the vision of confetti, the crash of cymbals, or the fanfare of trumpets deter you from attempting to come up with such remarkable wedding cakes.

Generally, wedding cakes are is the conventional cake being dished up to the guests at the breakfast after the wedding. It is characterized as a huge cake, different from the usual cakes we have on ordinary occasions. In most cases, wedding cakes are layered or multi-layered and are heftily decorated with icing, beads, and other embellishments that would reflect the grandiose of the event. On the top is a small image of a bride and groom.

Wedding cakes can go from the simplest to the most complex decorations; each has its own artistic distinctions depending on the creative juices of the baker. They should conform to the main purpose of the cake, that whatever embellishments it possess, it can still be edible and can be eaten.

Because the wedding cake is such an important part in the wedding celebration, here are some tips you need to know in case you will be buying a wedding cake in the future.

1. Check on the length of time required for you in ordering your wedding cake.

Time is such an important factor when making wedding plans. Of course, you would not want your wedding be hurriedly done or rushed. Because the wedding cake is a part of the wedding plan, it is important to devote an appropriate time in ordering wedding cakes.

It is best to ask your favorite bakeshop on the time frame that they usually give with regards to wedding cake so that you can make early orders if it will take such a long time to create your wedding cake. In this way, you will not be in a hurry coming up with a wedding cake to be served on your wedding day.

2. Verify the details of the cake and its cost.

A lot of couples are so fascinated with the luscious treats that go with their wedding cake. What they do not know is that each embellishment and every twists and turns embedded in the cake has a price.

Therefore, it would be better to clear it out with your baker how much will be the cost of every decoration are added features you wish to add on your wedding cake.

3. Tell your baker about the details of your wedding.

In today’s modern world, weddings are not just done in the church. A lot of ideas had come up in terms of wedding venues. Therefore, if ever you have any plans of having your wedding by the beach or anywhere else where it is open, it would be better to inform your baker about this.

In most cases, icings are vulnerable to environmental hazards. So, if the baker knows that your wedding will be a garden wedding or a wedding by the beach, he could make such arrangements with your cake in order to endure the environmental conditions where it will be placed.

4. In a budget? Why not decorate your own wedding cake.

It is not so uncommon nowadays to find somebody decorating his or her own wedding cake. In fact, it is a feasible idea especially to those who have a very tight budget.

All you have to do is to order a plain wedding cake and buy the decorations from the retail stores.

So, set aside some special decisive moment when it comes to your wedding cake because there would be no better way to glamorize your wedding than to have a perfectly made wedding cake.

Getting Started With Your Cake Decorating Career

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The cost of starting your own cake decorating business is a lot less than you might think, especially when compared to the more traditional brick and mortar business. Since your first step should be to create a service from your home you can save on overhead costs, such as rental space, larger equipment and of course, staff.

To start your business from home you will just need the essentials including basic equipment, baking supplies and of course elbow room! You should also designate an area that can be used for baking supplies. Extra storage space goes a long way in this business.

It is helpful for some people to take baking classes prior to starting a business. Or they may feel comfortable enough just from their previous experience of baking cakes and so can get started immediately.

Keep in mind that working from home does take self discipline and ongoing motivation. If you are passionate about baking cakes and decorating them, this should not be a problem. Here are some great features and positive aspects of having your own home business.

Set your own schedule

When you first begin working from home take things one baby step at a time. Set up a schedule where you work and try not to go outside of this time frame. The last thing you want is to get burn out early on. You need to balance things well in order to be successful and be able to stay committed.

Low Expenses

The costs are a lot lower since you do not have to rent a shop, hire employees, renovate the building, deal with inspectors and so much more that goes into running an ‘out of house’ store. Still once your business takes off you just might wish to upgrade to a larger area, or a walk-in store.

Home with the Children

If you have kids being a work at home mom is a success in itself. Your kids will not have to go into daycare and you will be at home when they need you.

You set the Times

You can see potential customers at your home on your schedule. Allowing for walk-ins is really not a good idea since this is your home and not just a place of business. However, develop a good scheduling system where you allow clients to come over, look at your samples and discuss what it is that they have in mind.

There are many more advantages to working from home that you will quickly discover. It truly is an incredible experience, and one that you will be proud of.

Minimal Risk

Since it doesn’t cost much to get started if you decide that it isn’t for you, you lose nothing but time. There are very few businesses where this is the case.

Monogram Cake Toppers for Weddings

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Using a monogram is a classic method to customize the look and feel of many items. An embroidered monogram in clothing can give it the extra appeal that you require in an office setting. Monogram stationery adds your own unique taste when you write letters or leave memos for others.

Monograms aren’t just for clothes and paper, either. They’re an excellent way to add a professional and elegant atmosphere to a social gathering. Monogram napkins are a great way to add class to a wedding. Also, you can use a monogram design for wedding cake toppers.

Monogram wedding cake toppers are an interesting change to the typical bride and groom adornment that is found on most cakes. With a specially designed wedding cake topper, you can build onto the atmosphere or theme that you’re looking for. At the very least, you can get rid of the ordinary bride and groom ornament and add a little pizzazz to your cake.

Creating your own custom monogram wedding cake topper couldn’t be easier. Many stores have preset designs for you to pick and choose from. If you need something simple but stylish, you can browse through the different types of lettering that is offered. Or maybe you require a look that only a specific material can fulfill. In that case, you can choose between items such as solid brushed metal or gold acrylic mirror.

Make sure to choose the right color for your monogram wedding cake topper as well. There exists a wide variety of colors to choose from. If you desire something that stands out, you can go with a ruby or topaz look. If that’s too fancy for you, there are more simple choices such as gold or silver.

There are many types of monogram wedding cake toppers for you to decide on. A crystal covered single letter monogram adds a touch of beauty to your wedding cake. A ceramic cake topper can also yield the same atmosphere while producing a different effect altogether. The possibilities are limitless.

Where would one start their search for these exquisite items? A wedding supplies and accessories store should have a few of these items in stock. You may have to look around though, especially if you are looking for something specific. Be sure to ask friends and family if they know any good wedding shops.

Being a highly unique accessory, monogram wedding cake toppers can be expensive. Depending on where you shop, you might be paying for the number of letters, the size, or the amount of decoration on the cake topper. Of course, hosting a wedding is a rare lifetime event, so don’t be afraid to spare no expense. It will be worth it when you get the design you’re looking for.

Don’t omit any small details when the time comes to plan and host your wedding. If you need a small decoration to spruce up your wedding cake, try a monogram wedding cake topper. A simple detail might just make your wedding a whole lot memorable.

Would you eat a rotten cake just because it has pretty frosting?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I went shopping this past weekend, but not the normal kind of shopping that most people would think about; I went mattress shopping to see what was being offered on the general market. The selection and price variation was amazing.

On the surface, the array of offerings was like a fashion show. The colors, textures and designs attempt to lead the consumer to believe that mattress shopping is a beauty contest; but it’s not.

Once purchased, a mattress remains covered with sheets and other bedding most of it’s life. All the flash and glitter on the surface of the mattress becomes meaningless and invisible. The soul of a mattress is it’s contents – not it’s ticking, yet more attention is placed on it’s exterior aesthetics than on it’s interior components and construction; that alone is cause for concern.

Upon exploration and investigation it’s easy to understand why most mattress dealers shy away from exposing the ugliness of their mattress contents; the inside looks like some sort of medieval torture devise and not something that represents comfort and relaxation. Typically, traditional mattresses are made from twisted metal wires that are covered in chemical foam.

Even most mattress sales people will tell you that a traditional mattress is not the ideal sleep system and that a natural latex bed is far superior but generally more expensive; at least in the short term.

Traditional mattresses begin to show wear and “break-down” after 3 – 5 years of use and are normally in need of replacement within 7 years. Organic, natural latex mattresses maintain their “like-new” qualities for 20 years or more. When calculating cost, it’s simple to understand that over it’s life, an organic mattress is the much better value.

In addition to the financial benefits of an organic latex mattress, the health factors should also be considered.

A natural latex mattress provides even temperature regulated support and comfort while not discharging potentially harmful off-gasses that are common with traditional mattresses which have been saturated with fire retardant chemicals. Natural latex mattresses use wool or other eco-safe elements in order to pass strict federal fire and burn regulations. High quality natural latex mattresses that are produced from an eco-friendly company that has been manufacturing organic products for 20 years, such as Tomorrow’s World, which heavily monitors quality control is your safest bet.

Not only is a natural, organic latex mattress more comfortable and better for the environment, but it is also dust mite, mold and mildew resistant; anyone with allergies or asthma can testify to the benefits of an allergen free mattress.

In essence, though some conventional mattresses may appear to be beautiful on the outside, on the inside, where it really matter, they are not much more than knotted up metal and chemicals. Before mattress shopping, ask yourself: Would you eat a rotten cake just because it has pretty frosting?

Monogram Cake Toppers are becoming a popular way to adorn a wedding cake. One online site researched exclaims monogram cake toppers as all the rage. These cake toppers are usually very simple and elegant. The toppers are readily available at wedding decoration retailers and at a bevy of online retailers.

Monogram Cake Toppers are available in endless designs. You can find everything from laser precision cut to glass. The monogram cake toppers are designed with one, two, or three letters. The three letter designed toppers feature the groom’s first initial on the right, the brides on the left, and the couple’s last name in the middle, oftentimes larger than the other two letters. Metal monogram cake toppers are the most popular. Whether they are made of colored or classic white or yellow gold, they are a timeless and elegant way to remember your special day. The metal designs are precision cut for nice clean edges. These can be made in any color imaginable and are the sometimes embellished in Swarovski crystals.  These crystals are hand placed on the cut letters to create beautiful accents to the monogram cake toppers.

Acrylic monogram cake toppers are also very nice. Done in the right way they give a ceramic look to the piece and are a little softer than the metal designs. These are usually done with just the basic acrylic material and do not feature the crystal embellishments.

Most manufacturers of monogram cake toppers offer a wide variety of styles and fonts. One online site visited offered over 1700 font choices and dozens of colors. The toppers are also available in a variety of sizes ranging from 2 inches to 8 inches. For the larger pieces an extra fee will be added to the monogram cake toppers.

It is not recommended to wait until the last minute as with most wedding items because the monogram cake toppers take up to seven weeks to deliver. Most sites do offer a rush order, for an additional fee.

Not sure what to do after the wedding with your cake topper? Monogram cake toppers solve this problem for you. Instead of storing your cake topper in a box, the flat designs of the monogram cake toppers are easily mountable in a frame. This could be done very easily at home with a little creativity or brought to a local art store for a professional to do. Your cake topper is now a memory to cherish for years to come in your home, not just another dusty box in your basement to keep moving around with you as your family grows.

Monogram cake toppers, an elegant and simple way to celebrate your wedding day and a keepsake to last a lifetime. Though a little more costly than the classic cake topper; the sentimental and lasting value is well worth it.
