Kids Themed Party Ideas

Boys Parties:

Have a Ball of a Time
This is a great Summer Birthday idea; it can be done in your own backyard. Send out homemade invitations saying “Roll on over to our house where we’ll have a ball of a time”. Maybe print it out onto a sports ball printer paper. Let the children have free play for an hour, with a yard full of balls, soccer balls, baseballs, and bouncy balls, put up a net, have some bubbles out. Then have cake, the shape of a ball or their favorite sport type cake. You can have a piñata shaped as a ball of choice and then for goodie bags they get a baggie of candy from the piñata and a big bouncy ball. Voila a very fun party with very little effort.

Construction Party
Any party can be made simple with a little creativity, let the children have free play, pull out all the big trucks you own, some mega blacks, Lego, anything that they can build, some hardware stores may even supply you with little build it kits. Put out some pretzels or chips in the back of a dump truck; make some sugar cookies to put out as well shaped as trucks, arrows, and anything else that may represent construction in any way. A cake with a road with a little dump truck on it and a worker, maybe a sign or two from any little construction sets you may have or find at your local dollar store. The goodie bags can be a hard hat filled with toy tools, construction type stickers, etc… for putting in such little effort you are sure to get big results.

Hot Wheels Party
Decorate your home with blue and yellow balloons and streamers, print off some hot wheels coloring pages from your computer to put out for the kids to color during the party. The cake can easily be made by yourself, by placing a couple cars on a road, you instantly have a hot wheels cake. If you want to take decorating a step further there are many hot wheels party favors out there at your local dollar store or toy store. Goodie bags can be their coloring page that they colored during the party, a hot wheels car, and some candies.

Fear Factor Party
This party is for the daring only. The main activity at this party is the eating contest, make gross food for the party goers to eat such as eyeballs (peeled grapes) and other similar ideas, and just get creative. Also put out brains (cooked cauliflower) for them to touch while blindfolded, they could also touch boiling hot water (actually ice water but if the brain believes it’s hot it tricks them and the freezing cold actually feels hot for a couple of seconds) the ideas are endless. Make a worms and dirt cake. For goodie bags just fill them with anything slimy that you can find, they have those gooey bouncy balls, and candies such as gummy worms.

Girls Parties:

Luau
If it’s a summer party this can be done outdoors, but there’s no reason you can’t have a luau in the winter indoors. Have the kids come dressed in their favorite summer clothes, you can provide them with hula skirts and leis, play Hawaiian music and for activities you could have a limbo contest, a hula dancing contest, or play a game of hot coconut.
The cake can be made to look like a coconut, or decorated as the map of a Hawaiian island, maybe even just nicely decorated with Hawaiian type orchids. Goodie bags can be straw hats filled with anything tropical you can find, some ideas are a bottle of tropical punch, leis, cheap sandals, etc…

Bratz
Since these are the new Barbie’s it seems, why not give your little girl a Bratz party?! When the guests arrive they can all join in on a fun yet minimal makeover, then they can escape to the basement, play room, bedroom, whatever you have where they can dress up in feather boas, costume jewelry, fun clothes, etc… and they can then perform a fashion show. Have the cake be very simple maybe place a new bratz doll or two on top for the guest of honor to keep, then for goodie bags fill them with lip gloss, glitters, and jewels.

Slumber Party
If you’re brave enough to tackle this one, here are a couple of ideas to help you along. The planning for this type of party is actually quite simple because the girls normally just want to watch movies and snack. Keep snacks available like chips, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and pretzels. If you are feeling creative you can make a chocolate fondue, this will keep them busy for a good hour or so. Decorate the cake as your child’s favorite character or thing, if she’s into horses for example you could make a stable cake. If you need to find a way to keep them busy take them for a walk to your local store or ice-cream parlor, and then it’s time for movies and bed. For goodie bags a small bag filled with over-night goods works great, items such as a toothbrush, nail polish, a flashlight, etc…

But they do not mind it, as they want the toddler to be happy. Parent’s happiness increases as the baby grows. They celebrate various occasions to preserve it in the museum of their memory. The first birthday becomes the most celebrating occasion.

And in their effort to celebrate the birthday of their little toddler with a unique cake, bakeries keep a good contribution.

There can be nothing better than the Internet for readymade and quick knowledge. Labour of a few minutes will be enough to gather nice ideas about making cute birthday cakes.

Do it yourself Cupcake Wedding Cakes

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The do-it-your-selfer can save tons of money and have great success using these cupcake ideas for weddings:

<ul>
<li>You can make a beautiful cupcake tower with no cake decorating experience.

<li>Save on time and money.

<li>Mistakes don’t effect a whole cake. If you’re unhappy with a particular cupcake, don’t use it. Make extra cupcakes for this purpose.

<li>If you are bringing cupcakes in to a catering hall, you save on the cake-cutting fee.

<li>You can offer a variety of cake flavors to your guests.

<li>You can make a small cupcake tower for each table and save the thousands of dollars spent on floral centerpieces.

<li>You can offer your guests a second helping, if you like!
</ul>

The cupcake tower consists of one of more different designs on the cupcakes, displayed on stacked cake boards. Even the simplest designs are enhanced by adding votives, fresh or silk flowers, or tulle alongside the cupcakes on each tier.

In advance, you will need to decide on the design of your cupcake stand and the decorations you will put on the cupcakes.

<b>Assembling the Cupcake Stands:</b>

Even though you can vary the size of your cake boards, the higher the tier, the smaller the cake board. To serve 150 – 200 people, you will need 2 cupcake stands. For each one, create a 4-tier stand with cake boards, starting with 16″, then 12″, 9″ and finally 6″. The boards can be square or you can cut out a shape, if you like, by purchasing large pieces of foamcore. Your local craft store will have most of the things you need. Cover each board with non-stick foil, which comes in different colors. The edge of each cake board can be trimmed with ribbon to match the color scheme. Use either craft glue or hat pins to secure it.

In between the boards, there are a number of things you can do to enhance the display. You can purchase clear vases (wide enough and sturdy enough to support the tiers above) and fill the vases with flower petals, glass marbles, seashells, etc. Very inexpensively, you can also use flower pots in between the cake boards. Just spray paint them and tie a pretty ribbon around them. Check the sturdiness of your cupcake stand before the big day to prevent mishaps.

You can offer 2 flavors of cake to your guests by placing each flavor on its own stand. Let your guests know with a hand-written sign you place on the table in front of each one. You don’t have to fit all the cupcakes on the stands. Placing them on the cake table around the cupcake stands enhances the display.

<b>Decorating the Cupcake Stands:</b>

Decorations should be placed towards the center of each cake board so guests can easily retrieve a cupcake without disturbing the arrangement. Extend the decorations out on to the cake table and intermingle them with the cupcakes.

<b>Cupcake Ideas:</b>

If you know how to decorate cakes, you can make royal icing flowers. They will keep in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. These decorations can also be purchased. Or try adding molded chocolate decoration in hearts, seashells, or flowers. Craft stores carry chocolate in all different colors.

You can easily make the cupcakes more elaborate by adding silver non-pariels, pearl beads, ribbon, small plastic wedding bells, or other wedding decorations sold for making favors.

<b>Cupcake Decorating Ideas:</b>

Consider incorporating your wedding colors and theme into the cupcake decorations and the cake stand.Add a special touch to the cupcakes by icing them with a pastry bag fitted with a cake decorating tip. Once the icing hardens, the decorations won’t stick. If you work with someone else, have your helper add the decorations after each cupcake is iced. If you are working alone, you will need to keep icing handy to add fresh icing on top of the cupcake before adding the decorations.

<b>Transporting the Cupcakes:</b>

Any sturdy boxes will work fine for transporting the cupcakes. Separate them with balls of tissue paper to prevent them from falling over and bumping into one another.

Use your imagination to create unique cupcake ideas that will be the hit of the wedding!

Lovely Baby Shower Cakes – A Long Delicious List

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

When a baby is born, many families celebrate the coming of a new member by conducting baby showers. Although originally only for the first-born, nowadays baby showers are held for every baby a family welcomes into the world.

Usually baby showers are arranged and organized by friends and relatives of the to-be parents. These parties help parents get a head start on the things needed for the baby. However there are many religious beliefs and cultures that consider it bad luck and do not feel it is proper to have parties and bring into the home baby things before the birth of the baby.

Baby showers have many names. Some examples are:
• Daddy’s shower – a party for men only, namely dads-to-be.
• Grandma shower- is a party where items like changing pads and collapsible cribs are brought by the guests to be kept at the grandparents house.
• Baby sprinklers- a party held on a small scale for succeeding children for parents who don’t need too many gifts or items.

Commonly, baby showers have a theme around which the party is centered. The essential components of a baby shower include presents, games, food and cake.

Without a cake, no baby shower party is complete. One of the main attractions of a baby shower is the cake and there are various basic techniques for making them :

1. All-in-together – this involves gradually adding liquid ingredients after the placement of the dry ingredients along with the shortening in the food processor.
2. Creaming method – this involves creaming sugar and butter together and then gradually adding the remaining items.
3. Rubbing method- this involves rubbing the dry ingredients with the butter before gradually adding liquid ingredients.
4. Melt and mix- this involves first mixing together the dry ingredients, followed by adding melted butter and then the remaining liquid ingredients later.
5. Sponge making – this involves whipping the sugar and eggs into a froth and carefully mixing in the flour. Here, there is no fat or raising agent used so making the light sponge needs great skill.

Icing, frosting or toppings (like sprinkles) are usually used to enhance the finished cakes and to make them look more pleasing.
There are a number of cakes one can select for a baby shower. Some are as listed:
• Butter cake
• Angelfood cake
• Carrot cake
• Butterfly cake
• Cheesecake
• Chiffon cake
• Chocolate cake
• Cupcake
• Fruit cake
• Devil’s food cake
• Gingerbread
• Mooncake
• Ice cream cake
• Pineapple upside down cake
• Sponge cake
• Spice cake
• Pound cake

In addition to the numerous cakes, there are a number of ideas for baby shower cakes that can make the baby shower celebration much more special:

1. Toy Blocks Cake. One more idea is designing the baby shower cake to make it resemble children’s toy blocks, either three to four small blocks or just one large block. Surrounding the toy block cake with little toy cars or candies can further enhance the cake.
2. Belly cake. One terrific idea is designing the baby shower cake to make it resemble a pregnant belly. This can be done by frosting together a circular cake and a rectangular cake after placing the circular one on top of the other, to make it look similar to a pregnant belly.

Another interesting option is to experiment and come up with a creative idea of your own. One must always keep in mind that the goal is not just making a delicious cake but also to make a terrific centerpiece that commemorates the to-be-parents.

Wedding Cake Toppers: A Guide

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Long long time ago, there was a princess. Or, to be exact, a baker’s daughter who was going to be married, but wanted to see the symbol of her love and a perfect piece of art that would add to the wedding and make all other baker’s daughters green-eyed.

The father thought and though and thought and finally came up with the idea. He made up to small figurines of a bride and groom and put them on the top of a wedding cake. Daughter was furious, but everyone else liked the idea. And that’s how these special cake toppers for weddings were invented.

Nobody can really tell if it is a fiction or a story (which indicates that it is fiction, after all), but the fact is that the wedding cake toppers have been one of traditional symbols of married couples. The fact they were placed above the cake let everyone to see how the bride and groom look like (or want to look like, if you remember Shrek, you know what I’m talking about) and remind everyone that these two people are the most important that day.

Wedding cake toppers can be made in a wide variety of designs and styles – the couples are now able to choose the topper they think would fit the best in their vision of their future marriage.

While wedding cake toppers might be an excellent idea, you can still spoil it by not following the tips below:

1. Do not buy wedding cake toppers made of plastics, especially the cheap ones.

The point is that the wedding cake topper simply has to be as exceptional as you can get, maybe even more than your wedding cake. That’s why the mass-produced toppers just won’t do the trick. Handmade ones usually cost more than you think is reasonable, but they will change your wedding cake into something wonderful that will make your wedding a truly wonderful event.

2. Be creative.

It is a good idea to prepare the wedding along with the wedding cake and cake toppers as all personalized, not mass-produced items. The point is that this will add a lot to the romance and glamour imbued in the wedding itself.

Do not feel constrained with all the traditional ideas of how the cake toppers should look like. There are many new designs available and don’t forget that you might also have your own ideas. Don’t be afraid, just use them!

3. Parents´ wedding cake topper

Here’s something for those who want to creative, but lack the budget: use your parents cake topper… of course if only it is still available. As toppers are often stored as souvenirs, there is a good chance that at least one of them is still somewhere near.

Keep in mind that wedding cake toppers are not just another addon to a cake, but a real emblem representing the love between husband and wife.
